Configuration feature guide

From existing details to rule-based routing

Check the information you have first, then decide how requests should be handled. These six areas cover different parts of everyday setup: importing adds your details, Config defines the rules, and Global Routing determines whether those rules are used. When troubleshooting, change one type of setting at a time and note the result before each change.

Global Routing determines how traffic is handled

Start by checking Global Routing in Home. Config routes traffic according to the rules in the current configuration; Proxy handles requests through a proxy, while Direct connects without one. These options serve different purposes, not different connection-quality levels. To use rules, select Config, then open Config and verify that the relevant file is enabled. Rules are usually matched from top to bottom, so place specific domain rules before fallback entries. The example below demonstrates syntax only; it is not a complete file to replace your configuration. After making changes, test both the target site and everyday direct requests.

APP STORE / App Store & Purchase

Verify the genuine app and one-time purchase

Shadowrocket is a closed-source commercial app. Before getting it, verify the App Store listing; after purchase, prepare your own connection details. The app purchase and network services are separate.

Developer, official icon, and App ID

On the App Store product page, verify the developer, Shadow Launch Technology Limited. Compare the store icon with the official icon in this site’s header, then confirm that the product URL contains App ID 932747118. A similar name is not a substitute for these three checks. If you start from search results, open the product page and verify each detail rather than relying on the name shown in a search card.

The product page also shows compatibility, pricing, and purchase information. Use the details shown when you’re ready to buy, paying particular attention to device compatibility and your current account status. This guide helps you find the relevant information; it does not replace the current App Store listing with fixed system requirements or historical prices.

How to verify all three details →

Client purchase ≠ service subscription

The one-time purchase covers the right to use the Shadowrocket client. The US storefront lists it at $2.99; actual prices may vary, and each storefront displays prices in its local currency. You’ll still need to provide your own subscription or server details after purchasing the app. Get subscription links from your service provider.

This site does not provide, sell, or recommend servers or subscriptions. The ability to save server details in the app does not mean a working server is included with your purchase. If the list is empty after purchase, import your existing details. If you already have details but can’t connect, check your configuration and service status instead of buying the client again.

Store availability and your account

Whether the product page appears and which currency is used at checkout depend on your current App Store storefront and account. First check the store account on your device, then open the product page. If you can’t purchase or the page won’t load, follow the store’s guidance; a page that won’t open does not by itself indicate a problem with your device configuration.

Before purchasing, check the compatibility section. See the App Store listing for system requirements. If you plan to use the app on multiple devices, check purchase eligibility rather than assuming that the same product name means every device is covered. The account used to purchase the app and your iCloud sync status are separate; check them independently when troubleshooting.

Restore purchases and keep the app up to date

After changing devices or reinstalling, open the App Store with your original purchase account and look for Shadowrocket under your purchased apps. Check the App Store listing for specific restoration conditions and purchase eligibility. If the page still asks you to pay, check your account and purchase history before proceeding to avoid repeating the purchase before verifying your account.

Update the app through the App Store. Restoring the app does not necessarily restore all server details and configurations. After opening it, check your server list, current Config, and connection permissions; reimport your own details if needed. Keep important configurations before updating, then test the same destination afterward. Changing one setting at a time makes it easier to pinpoint any differences.

Getting Shadowrocket on iPhone and iPad

On either device, verify the app on the same App Store product page. Use the same Apple ID to find purchased apps, and check the App Store listing for purchase eligibility. You’ll still need to verify connection details, current selections, and system permissions on each device.

iPhone

For your first connection, follow this order: Home → Global Routing → Connectivity Test. When you turn on the connection, if the system asks to add a VPN configuration, first confirm that the prompt was triggered by your current action, then follow the system instructions. This permission creates a VPN configuration on the device; it does not verify that your server details are correct.

For your first session, keep connections manual. Confirm that the selected server works and the destination is reachable before considering On Demand. Test on both cellular and Wi-Fi to see whether the issue occurs only on a particular network.

iPad

If you’ve already purchased the app, look for it under purchased apps using the same Apple ID. Check the App Store listing for specific download and restoration conditions. A larger display may change how lists and details are arranged, but you can still find Home, Config, Data, and Settings by their interface labels.

After moving from another device, check that your servers are present and the subscription updated successfully, then verify Global Routing. Even if your details appear through sync, select a server and run an actual connection test. Network conditions and system permissions can differ from one device to another.

Shadowrocket is also available from the same App Store on Mac and Apple TV. See the App Store listing for system requirements and purchase eligibility.

Common questions before you continue

I imported a subscription. Why do I still need to select a server?

Importing adds details to your list; selecting a server sets which one is currently in use. Check the selection indicator in Home, turn on the connection, then run Connectivity Test. If the list is empty, go back to subscription import and update steps. There’s no need to keep switching Global Routing.

Which should I use first: Config, Proxy, or Direct?

Choose based on what you need to do: use Config for rule-based routing, check Proxy when testing a proxy connection, and choose Direct for a direct connection. Note your original selection before switching. If only certain destinations have a problem, check the rules and configuration instead of cycling through all three options as a fix.

Global Routing terms explained →
If the switch at the top is on, does that mean everything is working?

The switch reflects only one part of the connection process. Also check Connectivity Test, access to the actual destination, and traffic changes in Data. Note the network, server, and configuration when the issue occurs to help distinguish between connection setup, rule matching, and the destination’s response.
